If your institution uses SAML authentication and you have trouble logging into your account, your ExamSoft support agent might ask you to conduct a SAML trace to help troubleshoot the issue. You can quickly install a web browser add-in, run the trace, and send the data to ExamSoft.
Note: You can follow the procedure in either Firefox or Chrome.
Procedures
Install and Run the SAML Tracer in Firefox
- Using Firefox, go to: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/saml-tracer/
- Select Add to Firefox.
- When the installation is complete, select the SAML Tracer icon on the Firefox toolbar.
- Keeping the SAML Tracer tab open, open a new tab or window in Firefox.
- In the new tab or window, go to your institution's ExamSoft Portal, and log in.
- Go back to the SAML Tracer window.
- In the tracer text, select this line: POST https://prod-api.examsoft.io/saml/SSO.
- Select the SAML tab at the bottom of the window.
- In that area, select all of the text, and copy it.
- Paste the copied text into an email.
- Send the email to the ExamSoft employee who is assisting you with this issue.
Install and Run the SAML Tracer in Chrome
- Using Chrome, go to: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/saml-message-decoder/mpabchoaimgbdbbjjieoaeiibojelbhm?hl=en
- Select Add to Chrome.
- When the installation is complete, go to your institution's ExamSoft Portal, and log in.
- Select the SAML Tracer icon at the top right corner of the Chrome toolbar.
Note: If you cannot see the SAML icon, restart Chrome, and log in to your ExamSoft Portal again. - In the top right corner of the page, select Copy This Message.
- Paste the copied text into an email.
- Send the email to the ExamSoft employee who is assisting you with this issue.
