Many Microsoft devices (including Surface Pros) are shipped with Microsoft Windows 10 or 11 S (S Mode). S Mode only allows app downloads from the Microsoft Store. To download Examplify, users will need to switch out of S Mode. Follow the steps below for the appropriate operating system to disable this setting.
Procedure
Disabling S Mode on Windows 10
- Select the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.
- Select Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Activation.
On the Activation page, the edition of Windows is displayed and will show "S Mode" at the end.
- Select the Go to the Store link. (You might need to scroll down to see it, as illustrated below).
IMPORTANT
Do not select Upgrade your edition of Windows. This is not the selection to get your device out of S Mode. - On the Switch Out of S mode page, select the Get button.
- Select the Install button.
Note: On the Activation page, the edition of Windows no longer includes "in S Mode."
Disabling S Mode on Windows 11
- Select the Windows icon.
- Select Settings.
- Select System and then scroll down to select Activation.
- Select S mode and click Open Store.
Do not select Upgrade your edition of Windows if it appears. This is not the selection to get your device out of S Mode.
- On the Switch out of S mode page, select the Get button.
- Once complete you should receive a confirmation message.
On the Activation page, the edition of Windows no longer includes “S Mode”.
