Faculty Experience and Portal Management
Will my faculty need to request Benchmark Exams and support through the Benchmark Team?
No, self-managed Benchmark Exams are designed to allow faculty to select from a menu of options within the Enterprise Portal. This eliminates the necessity of contacting the Benchmark Team to request access to Benchmark Exams.
Will my faculty or students require a separate login to access Benchmark Exams?
Self managed Benchmark Exams for Clinical Judgment Exams are available within Enterprise Portals. If your institution utilizes the Enterprise Portal, faculty and students will post, administer, and complete Benchmark Exams within your institution portal.
If you are utilizing the Legacy Portal, the Benchmark Team will prepare and configure an Enterprise Portal exclusive to your institution to allow access to self-managed Benchmark Exams.
Is Single Sign-On (SSO) compatible with self-managed Benchmark Exams?
Enterprise Portal: Yes, if you have an existing SSO integration configured on your institution portal, faculty and students will use these credentials to login to access Benchmark Exams, no action is required.
Legacy Portal: Yes, if you have an existing SSO integration configured on the institution Legacy Portal, we can support you in configuring this integration on the self-managed Benchmark Exam portal.
Are Learning Management Systems compatible with self-managed Benchmark Exams?
Enterprise Portal: Yes, if you have an existing LMS integration configured on your institution portal, self-managed Benchmark Exams may be posted and administered within LMS-synced courses.
Legacy Portal: Yes, if you have an existing LMS integration configured on the institution Legacy Portal, we can support you in configuring this integration on the self-managed Benchmark Exam portal to allow self managed Benchmark Exams to be posted and administered within LMS-synced courses.
Can I continue using the Benchmark Exam portal?
No, the Benchmark Exam portal used previously will not support self-managed Benchmark Exams or include any future product updates, enhancements, or fixes. The Benchmark Team will support the transition away from the Benchmark Portal to allow faculty to autonomously administer Benchmark Exams.
Accessing Self-Managed Benchmark Exams
How do I access self-managed Benchmark Exams?
Your CJE content will be organized as courses within your specified department. Because of this and depending on the type of user account, some faculty might need adjustments made to their permissions. Exam-makers at minimum will need course level administrator access to the CJE: Benchmark Course.
Administering Benchmark Exams
How do I select which Benchmark Exam to administer?
Within the Benchmark Exam course, select Create Assessment. A menu will appear providing the option to create an exam from a bank of Benchmark: licensed assessment. From there, CJE subject areas will be available for you to choose. Once the draft Benchmark Exam of your choosing is created, you may create a linked copy of the exam to post in a "live" course that syncs to your LMS or has students enrolled.
Can I customize Benchmark Exam settings or content?
No, Benchmark Exam content and settings are hidden from view within the portal. This is intentional to maintain the integrity of Benchmark Exams to ensure all students nationwide are sitting for the same exam as authored by NurseThink. The following cannot be visible or modified within the portal:
- Assessment options
- Pre-assessment notices
- Security options
- Content included on exams
- Individual item performance
What are the predetermined assessment Benchmark Exam settings?
When you create a Clinical Judgment Exam, all of these options are pre-set for you.

- Backwards Navigation: Off
- Require Answer: On
- Calculator: On
- Text Highlighting: Off
- Randomize Question Sequence: Yes
- Randomize Answer Choices: Yes
- Time Limit: 1.5 minutes/item*
*The secure option and the time limit will be automatically adjusted for certain accommodations that you set up for your exam-takers.
How long do students have to take Benchmark Exams?
The Benchmark Exams are designed to permit 1.5 minutes per question.

What reports are available for Benchmark Exams?
Within the Enterprise Portal, Benchmark Exams are compatible with the following reports:

Can I sync Benchmark Exam scores back into my Learning Management System (LMS)?
Enterprise Portal: Yes, if you have an existing LMS integration configured on your institution portal, scores from Benchmark Exams can sync back into the LMS gradebook.
Legacy Portal: Yes, if you have an existing LMS integration configured on the institution Legacy Portal, we can support you in configuring this integration on the self-managed Benchmark Exam portal.
