Cloze (Drop-Down) items allow candidates to select one option from a drop-down list. There can be more than one drop-down list within a Cloze item. These drop-down lists can be used as words or phrases within a sentence, tables, or charts.

In ExamSoft, you can use the Fill in the Blank question type to create these items.

Instructions
- Create a question, and select the Fill in the Blank question type.
Note: For more information, see: Enterprise Portal: Basic Steps to Create and Edit Questions
- As you write the question text, click where you want a blank to appear, and then select the Drop Down button (below the question area).
ExampleIn this example, two blanks have been added to the question by using the Drop Down button.
- Enter the answer choices, which will be presented to the exam-takers as a drop-down list.
ExampleIn this example, the two drop-down lists present the same list of answer choices.
- For each numbered answer, select a checkmark to indicate the correct answer choice.
- (Recommended) Assign one or more categories. For more information, see: Enterprise Portal: Assign Categories to Questions
- (Optional) Select other options, if needed.
Tips:
- If the question involves an electronic health or medical record, you can upload an attachment. For more information about attachments, see: Attachment Types and Requirements
- If there are multiple questions related to the same case, you can group the questions together after you add them to an assessment.
- Save the question.
Legacy Portal: Create a Cloze (Drop-Down) Item

- Select the Questions menu (at the top of the screen).
- Select the Create FITB button (for a Fill in the Blank question).

- As you write the question text, click where you want a blank to appear, and then select the Add Dropdown button (near the bottom of the screen).

- In each Dropdown Choice section, enter the answer choices, which will be presented to the exam-takers as a drop-down list.
Note: In each Dropdown Choice section, you can select the Add New Answer Choice button to add more options to the dropdown list.
