In the NCLEX, Extended Multiple Response items allow exam-takers to select one or more answer options at a time. This item type is similar to the current NCLEX multiple response items, but with more options and the opportunity for partial credit scoring.

In ExamSoft, you can use the Multiple Choice question type to create these items.
Procedures

- Create a question, and select the Multiple Choice question type.

- Enter the question text and answer choices.

In the Options (below the list of answer choices), select +/- Partial Credit.

Earn points (+1) for selecting correct information
-
Lose points (-1) for selecting incorrect information

Max points = number of correct options

Min points = 0

No negative scores

Note: If a question with 4 correct answer choices is worth 1 point, each correct/ incorrect response will be valued at 0.25 points. Learn how to assign additional points to questions.
- To indicate a correct answer, select the checkmark for that answer choice.
- (Recommended) Assign one or more categories. For more information, see: Enterprise Portal: Assign Categories to Questions
- (Optional) Select other options, if needed.
Tips:
- If the question involves an electronic health or medical record, you can create a case study or upload an attachment.
- If there are multiple questions related to the same case, you can group the questions together after you add them to an assessment.
- Save the question.
Legacy Portal: Create an Extended Multiple Response Item
- Select the Questions menu (at the top of the screen).
- Select the Create M/C button.

- Enter the answer choices, and indicate the correct answers by selecting the checkboxes in the Correct column.
