Download FAQs

Description

This guide provides answers and resources for some of our most frequently asked questions about downloading Examplify and exams.

You'll find a range of information about how to install the Examplify software and access your exams, ensuring you are fully prepared ahead of exam day.

This guide has been divided into two sections, covering software and exam downloads respectively.

Before continuing, always seek guidance from your institution, ahead of installation, as you will be required to install a specific version of Examplify.

Software

How do I download Examplify?
  • Your institution should provide you with setup instructions.
  • This will typically be via email, which will include details about registration and installation.
  • You can also use our help site for a range of help guides, whether you are installing for the first time or need a direct download link
What device should I use?
  • We advise all exam-takers to review our Minimum System Requirements, before committing to any purchase or installation.
  • ExamSoft is unable to recommend specific brands or devices.
  • Examplify can be used on modern Windows or Mac computers (i.e. purchased within the last 3-4 years) that meet the Minimum System Requirements.
Can I use my iPad?
  • iPad access must be enabled by your institution in order for Exam Takers to download the Examplify application on iPad.
    • Without this setting enabled, you will not be log in or download exams on iPad.
    • If you do not see your institution's name when attempting to log in via iPad, this likely means the setting has not been enabled.
    • You will need to either proceed with a supported Windows or Mac device, or reach out to an administrator at your institution to see if this setting can be enabled.
  • As with any other device, users will need to ensure their iPad meets our Minimum System Requirements.
How do I know if I have the right version of Examplify?
  • Your institution should provide you with information on what version of Examplify you should be installing. This will typically be via an email, which may also include details about registration and installation.
  • Additionally, you can access the version of Examplify your institution is pinned to by downloading the installer via your Exam Taker portal. The version number will appear in the download file's name, such as "Examplify_3.8.0_win.exe" (where the version number would be 3.8.0) or "Examplify_3.7.2.dmg" (where the version number would be 3.7.2). The version will also appear in the bottom right corner of Examplify once you've logged in. Click these links for more information on how to check Examplify versions on Windows, Mac, or iPad.
  • If you already have Examplify installed, and you see a different version than what you have been instructed to download, try re-downloading the application from your Exam Taker portal.
  • If you are still having issues downloading or accessing the correct Examplify version, you may troubleshoot this by performing a process called a "Clean Installation".
    • We have separate guides for Windows and Mac devices.
    • If you are using iPad, do not uninstall Examplify until you've been able to remove any upcoming exams that have been downloaded, and don't have any pending uploads. iPad versions of Examplify can be updated directly from the App Store.
Do I need to pay to download Examplify?
  • Please see our separate Payment FAQs guide with more detailed information about payment.
I've already got Examplify installed from last year, will it still work?
  • Our guidance on Minimum System Requirements is to actively check that your device is compatible.
  • This also applies to returning students.
  • Institutions may specify a different version of Examplify for a new academic year, which will require all exam-takers to upgrade.
  • It's important to keep in mind that if you have Examplify installed from a previous term or semester, you may still need to make a payment to renew your ExamSoft User License. Otherwise, you may see an error that your account is inactive, or you may not be able to download any exams. Please see our separate Payments FAQs guide for more detailed information about payment.
I have Examplify from last year and it seems to work fine. Why should I upgrade?
  • While unsupported versions may still function, ExamSoft may not troubleshoot issues arising on unsupported versions.
  • Users encountering technical issues on an unsupported version may be instructed to update to a supported version in order to resolve their issue.
  • Additional features that are released on newer versions of Examplify will not be available on older or unsupported versions.
  • All exam-takers should be using the specific version that is selected by their institution.

Exams

Exam-takers will need to have an active ExamSoft account and a working installation of Examplify to access their exams. Exams will be posted by your instructor with a date range and download limit. This will dictate the exam's download window and how many times you can download an exam
How do I download an exam?
  • Once you are logged into Examplify, you will find your exams available to download on the left-hand side of the window (under the heading Ready for Download).
  • You will need to select the desired exam and click Download Exam.
I can't see any exams available to download.
  • It is important to confirm with your instructor/admin that the exam has been posted and the download window is currently open. ExamSoft Support cannot make or modify exams or exam posting settings.
  • You can also check your student portal to verify this information.
I've contacted my instructor. The download window is open, but it is still missing in Examplify.
  • If the exam is still not available, after verifying the download window and download limit, the next step will be to clear your Examplify registration in the application.
  • After completing this process, you will be required to re-enter your Institution ID and login credentials.
I've cleared the Examplify registration, but the exam is still missing.
  • If the exam is still not available, after clearing your Examplify registration, it is advisable to contact your instructor/admin for further investigation. It may be that you've not been enrolled in the ExamSoft course for this exam.
  • If you have previously attempted to download the exam on another device and cannot remove the download, your instructor may need to adjust the exam's post settings to provide you with an additional download. Ensure you are downloading your exam on the device you intend to test with.
Is it possible to download exams on multiple devices?
  • Exam-takers are advised to download their exams on to the device they intend to use on exam day.
  • Instructors will often set an exam's download limit to 1, to ensure academic integrity and secure exam conditions.
  • If you attempt to download an exam on different devices, this will likely cause the exam to be missing after the first download, and will require you to contact your instructor for assistance.
  • ExamSoft Support cannot provide additional downloads of exam files.
Can ExamSoft provide me with an additional download, instead of contacting my instructor?
  • ExamSoft does not directly manage your institution's exam post settings or downloads.
  • You will need to communicate directly with the exam administrator for any requests of additional exam downloads.
I've downloaded the exam previously, but now it isn't appearing in my exam list.
  • If the exam is not available after previously downloading it, ensure you are using the device you originally downloaded the exam on. Exams are typically limited to 1 download, and the download is saved locally to the device.
    • As an example, downloading your exam on your home computer would use your download attempt and prevent it from appearing in Examplify on your school device.
    • If you have downloaded the exam to the wrong device, you will simply need to remove the exam download. Note, this will only work if the exam's download window is still open. If the download window is closed, you will not see this appear as ready for download again. Ensure you've confirmed the exam is still open for download before proceeding.
    • If the above troubleshooting is unsuccessful, reach out to your instructor to provide you with an additional download.
  • This issue can also occur when an instructor has made the exam unavailable. As ExamSoft Support does not manage the exam's post settings or downloads, you will need to reach out to an instructor or exam administrator for assistance with an additional download.
