Legacy Portal: Issue Resume Codes

In various situations, Examplify will display a message that requires the exam-taker to get a Resume Code from the proctor in order to continue an exam. For example, if an exam-taker's computer is turned off during an exam and remains off longer than the rebooter time limit, then this type of prompt will appear. Until it is entered, the exam-taker will be unable to continue the exam. These precautions help to ensure exam integrity.

The exam-taker's screen will display a code (called a Continuation Code or a Challenge Key). (For more information about the messages that exam-takers see, go to: Examplify: Challenge Key (Continuation Code) Messages and Resume Codes.) You will use the code/key from the exam-taker's screen to obtain a Resume Code from your ExamSoft Portal.

You can issue the Universal Resume Code or a Single-Use Code.

  • Universal Resume Code: You can give this code to anyone who needs to resume the exam. When the exam-taker enters the code on the Examplify screen, the exam resumes. This approach is convenient when there is an issue, such as a power outage, that affects multiple students.
  • Single-Use Resume Code: This code can be used by only one exam-taker. It works in a lock-and-key manner. You obtain a code from the exam-taker's screen and enter it in the ExamSoft Portal to generate a single-use code. When the exam-taker enters the code on the Examplify screen, the exam resumes. This approach is recommended when an individual is affected by a computer malfunction or similar issue. Exam integrity is ensured, because this code cannot be used by others.

  2. At the top of the screen, select Assessments.
  3. Select the assessment that is in progress.
  4. On the Contents tab (which is displayed by default), scroll down until you see the Security Options on the left side of the screen.

  2. Log in to the ExamSoft Portal.
  3. At the top of the screen, select Assessments.
  4. Select the assessment that is in progress.
