Steps to Take

Watch the video below to learn how to verify your device's specifications against Examplify's minimum system requirements.  Please feel free to pause and review the steps or adjust the playback speed as needed. Otherwise, review an overview of the steps below:

1. Check Your Operating System & Processor

Examplify needs to run on an approved operating system version of Windows, macOS, or iOS (iPad) to ensure your exam remains secure.

How to check your operating system and processor:

Compare what you see with the official Examplify Minimum System Requirements page:

  • Windows: Open your Start Menu, click Settings, go to System, and select About.

  • Mac: Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen, select System Settings, then General, and choose  About.

  • iPad: Open the Settings app and go to General > About.

Important Warning: If a brand-new operating system (like a major new macOS or Windows version) just launched, do not upgrade to it unless your instructor or institution gives you the green light. Brand-new systems are often not yet supported by Examplify. You can also see if our Minimum System requirements page has been updated to reflect new operating system versions.

2. Check Your Hard Drive Space

Examplify needs plenty of breathing room to download exam files and securely save your progress.

  • Windows & Mac: You need at least 4 GB of free space (8 GB for monitored exams).

  • iPad: You need at least 500 MB of free space.

How to check your storage:

  • Windows: Open your Start Menu, click Settings, go to System, and select About.

  • Mac: Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen, select System Settings, then General, and choose About.

  • iPad: Go to Settings > General > About.

3. Check Your RAM (Memory)

RAM controls how hard your computer can work at any given moment. The amount of RAM you need depends on the type of exam you are taking:

  • Standard Exams: Require at least 4 GB of RAM.

  • Monitored Exams (using camera/microphone): Require at least 8 GB of RAM.

How to check your RAM:

  • Windows: Open your Start Menu, click Settings, go to System, and select About.

  • Mac: Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen, select System Settings, then General, and choose About.

  • iPad: Go to Settings > General > About.

4. Check Additional Settings

In addition to the operating system, processor, hard drive space and RAM, you should check the following:

  • Your device has the US English language pack installed
